It was a banter launch for what will be undoubtedly a banter election. Within minutes of stepping out into Downing Street, Rishi Sunak was soaked, literally by the pouring rain and metaphorically in online ridicule as the internet’s wags seized on the unworldly bizarreness of the launch. Uncut has collated the top 10 that are making Westminster smile. Given Rishi Sunak’s political touch, this is unlikely to be the last top 10 of the campaign.
In reverse order:
10. Rishi as Partridge. Quite uncanny.

9. And we go live to the internal monologue of most Conservative MPs…

8. To be fair, the visuals here are much better than the actual announcement. There’s some sunshine and better composition than the Tory team managed.

7. If “Gullis eating soup with a fork” doesn’t make you smile then all we can say is ‘Sorry Jonathan, one day you’ll look back and laugh’
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe… Gullis eating soup with a fork. I watched Braverman try to deport a sofa. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain… Time to die.” pic.twitter.com/6Uzq14BcRa

3. One day, a history of the 2010-2024 Conservative government will be written exclusively through the medium of this Bladerunner quote
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. A lettuce which lasted longer than a Prime Minister. A government toppled by a suitcase of wine. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to die…” pic.twitter.com/wkNsvlH4TF

2. Downing Street’s most sensible resident
Lots of people asking me where I was when Sunak announced the election. I was inside, because it was raining. Only an idiot would have gone out in that… #GeneralElection pic.twitter.com/feRD2YYvvU
