Deputy Speaker Elections
I am writing to formally ask if you will support my candidacy for the role of Deputy Speaker.
When I was elected to Parliament 23 years ago I was a single parent. Even with support from family and friends it is difficult I know to deal with all the demands. In that time as a backbencher, shadow minister and government minister I have always tried to support and encourage all my colleagues, to help them achieve their potential.
A priority for the progressive reform of Parliament needs to be based on rights for backbenchers, making a major difference to our role as Members of Parliament and enabling us to restore Parliament’s reputation.
Parliament is the crucible where we represent and express the interests and hopes of our constituents. By working together to establish a Parliament which is fairer and more responsive, we will strengthen our role of serving our constituents.
